Andy McInnis, Head Coach / Director, Ottawa Lions Track & Field Club
Our recent relationship with Events Ottawa has been invaluable in the last 2 years. Working together with their skill sets has had a significant impact on our ability to bid, win and host events, such as the 2017/2018 Canadian Track and Field Championships. They also spearheaded support for sport facility improvements at the Terry Fox Athletics Facility and their contacts provincially, nationally and internationally, have all helped us to organize and deliver many great events for the City of Ottawa. Events Ottawa has been a “win – win” relationship for our organization, the entire City and Eastern Ontario.
Greg Stremlaw, Chief Executive Officer , Canadian Curling Association
Over the past year, the Canadian Curling Association (CCA) and Ottawa Tourism have extensively collaborated and also entered into a very unique partnership agreement that will provide the City of Ottawa with strategic hosting opportunities for a number of years in the future. These opportunities include high profile national championship events as well as the potential to stage an international championship, with a significant economic impact to the City of Ottawa. On behalf of the Canadian Curling Association, I would like to personally congratulate Darrell Cox for his initiative and leadership in working with the CCA to create this unique partnership that will showcase the strength of sport tourism, the economic impact for the City, and the importance of curling to the City of Ottawa.
Kathy Noxon, Director, Eastern Region Ringette Association
The assistance that we received from Darrell Cox representing Ottawa Tourism went far above and beyond anything that we could have anticipated. Added to that, the professionalism and enthusiasm that he added to the preparation of the bid was incredible - truly a wonderful working experience.
Norm O’Reilly, Race Chair, 2013 ITU Duathlon World Championships, Senior Advisor, Consulting Group, TrojanOne
In the summer of 2012, we at TrojanOne were presented with an opportunity to host the 2013 International Triathlon Union (ITU) Duathlon World Championships. The opportunity to host an international event of this magnitude is rare and preparation times typically range from 2 to 4 years, not 12 months. However, thanks to the efficient support of Ottawa Tourism and their willingness to help us navigate the challenges of hosting a running and cycling event in the heart of a major city, we were able to welcome more than 1000 international athletes and coaches to Ottawa in August 2013 and award world championships to age-group, junior and elite athletes. To boot, the event generated an estimated $8 million in economic impact for the city of Ottawa.
